How to Check Inverter Battery Water Level?

Whenever you need to check the battery electrolyte level, prefer the red and green caps which are provided by the company. These caps are for only one purpose and that is to check the electrolyte level, they have a float in them.

The red pointer indicates that which cell have how much electrolyte in them.

There will be two markings on the outer glass as red (downside) and green (upper side). The level of electrolyte always must fall between these two markings, just like these two cells this cell is about to reach to redline and this one on the other side is on the red line and this is too low the electrolyte level must always be between these two markings.

If the level of electrolyte goes above the green marking or below the redpoint then it’s not acceptable and if your battery is of a local brand then there will be markings on the battery itself saying as maximum level and minimum level, in that case, you have to check the electrolyte level from there.

Now I have to fill these cells with the distilled water but which one??

Which Water should I put in the inverter battery?

You need to fill only this battery water which is also known as distilled water and is easily available at any battery shop. And please do not fill the inverter battery with any other water such as rainwater, tap water, or RO distilled water.

The reason behind this is that the tap water, RO water, and even the rainwater has dirt, minerals, and bacteria present in it which makes them high conductivity due to which this water will not let the electricity pass through and if you fill with any of these water, then your battery backup and life will decrease too soon.

So always fill the battery water (distilled water) in the inverter battery which is easily available in any battery shop. You can purchase it in a big container or a smaller one as per your inverter type and requirement.

How to properly fill the inverter battery water (distilled)?

First of all switch off the inverter and the main power supply to it.

Always remember do not open these front caps, you need to open the caps in the backside to fill the distilled water in the inverter battery.

To open these caps the best way is to use a coin. An important thing to note, always place this cap on a clean surface because if you are able to see there are two small holes in it these are made for the release of hydrogen gas which is made after the chemical reaction in the battery and if you place these caps on the dirty surface and these holes get blocked then the battery fill’s with the hydrogen gas and will blast.

So always place these caps on a clean surface to fill the distilled water into the battery. You can directly do it with the bottle or can use a syringe or the best way is to use a funnel, put it to the cell to which you want to fill with the battery water.

Then simply use a big container or small bottle to fill the distill water and along with that you need to keep checking the level, it should not goes over the green marking. If you fill it over the green marking (maximum level), in that case, your battery will not give a good backup.

After filling the distill water place all the caps back and tighten them up if there is any spillover do clean it properly.

You can now switch on the power supply and turn ON the inverter. You’re good to go now.
